2D Thermal FEA app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: Neil Dwyer
First release : 23 May 2014
App size: 932 Kb
This is a proof of concept app I made for my Senior Project. It is capable of solving the Steady State Heat Equation on an arbitrary 2D shape using Finite Element Analysis.
This is not intended for actual engineering calculations. Many features that this app would benefit from as a product were not beneficial towards completing the goals for my senior project.
This app is however very informative for those who know little about Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Users can perform FEA and see the results of varying mesh qualities for FREE as opposed to spending thousands of dollars a year on professional FEA software packages.
Instructions:
1) Make a shape with finger touches.
2) Apply boundary conditions and heat sources by tabbing over on the initial screen.
3) Press the "descritization" button once there is a boundary condition on every edge.
4) Press the triangulate button to create an initial triangulation.
5) Use finger touches to add nodes to the mesh.
6) Press the "solution" button to view and probe the solution
7) Mesh can be refined by pressing the back button and adding more nodes to the mesh.
The material is steel. The scale is 1px = 10cm or 2px=10cm for retina devices.
I hope you all can learn and enjoy this app.
If enough interest comes from this I will continue to pursue this as an actual product. Email me at neildwyer.kinproductions@gmail.com if you would like to be a part of making this app into something more powerful and usable in practice. For suggestions, please leave a review :)
Cheers!
